To be clear, car companies don’t announce new incentives until after old incentives have expired. August incentives will end on August 31,  or September 5, or September 6, depending on car company. New deals will be announced soon thereafter. Even dealers don’t know what’s coming until the official announcements. 

September and October have traditionally been good months in which to buy or lease a new car. It’s because most of next year’s models are out or will soon be out and dealers have stock of this year’s models to sell off.  This year is no exception. 

We expect Honda and Toyota to be mostly back to full production after the recent earthquake event and they’ll be fighting to regain previous sales levels with some excellent incentives. We may also see some rare incentives on these companies’ luxury brands, Acura and Lexus. 

Other Japanese car companies such as Nissan, Mazda, Infiniti, and Subaru who were not as affected by the earthquake will have to up the ante with improved incentives to stay in the game. Nissan’s rebates on 2011 models average about $2500 and there are 0% APR loans on neary every model. We expect to see this high level of incentives continue into September — on 2011 models. 

American car manufacturers, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors, have taken advantage of the Japanese situation in the last few months, offering some of the biggest and best deals in the industry, attempting to lure customers back. Chrysler and Ford currently have  rebates averaging about $2500 and 0% APR loan rates on nearly every 2011 model vehicle.

General Motors (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac) rebates are a bit smaller, on average, and 0% APR loans on slightly fewer models but nevertheless very attractive. We expect to see September incentives that are at least as good as August, if not better to compete with the expected aggressive campaigns from the Japanese companies. 

Now that many new 2012 models are out or will be coming out in September and October, we will see better incentives on those models, especially after leftover 2011 models have been mostly sold off. 

In summary, if you are in the market for an American car brand, it’s hard to see how deals on 2011 models can be much better in the coming months. Why wait? If you want a Honda or Toyota, or other Asian brand, waiting might be a good strategy. There will be good lease deals, but few rebates and zero percent loans, on European brands such as Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo.

Chevrolet

We list and rate the leases below.

Each Chevrolet lease is is for 39 months and requires a down payment which is due at signing along with the first month’s payment, and any official tax and tag fees. No security deposit is required for customers with good credit. All special lease incentives expire on 9/6/2011.

Although these deals are “national” deals, be aware that General Motors (Chevrolet’s parent company) and its dealers are just getting back on their feet with leasing after the collapse of GMAC (GM’s financing company) a few years ago — which means deals can vary from region to region, or even dealer to dealer. If you don’t find the “national” deal at one dealer, try others.

In the listing of Chevrolet lease incentives shown below, we also include a rating of each deal by LeaseGuide.com. It is impossible to determine whether a lease deal is good or bad simply by looking at the monthly payment. LeaseGuide used a unique lease calculator, the Real Lease Value Calculator, for scoring and rating these leases.

Clearly, the Malibu lease is the best of all four deals. What this means is that you get more car for your lease money with this vehicle. Not so much so on the Equinox lease but even that deal is better than a deal that you could negotiate for yourself for that vehicle.

Volkswagen

All the current Volkswagen lease deals shown below expire on August 31, 2011, are for 36 months and 36,000 miles (except where noted).

Note that both 2011 and 2012 VW models are being promoted. We would have expected the deals on the 2011 models to be significantly better than for the 2012 models, but that is not the case. The deals on the 2012 CC and Eos are actually better than on the 2011 models (surprise!). The remaining 2011 deals are only marginally better  than the 2012s — not enough to make a serious difference. In other words, in you are looking for a VW lease, selecting a newer 2012 model is a good choice.

In the listing below, you’ll see a rating and a score. These are calculated using the Real Lease Value Calculator  at LeaseGuide.com. Scores generally range from 50-90 and ratings range from Poor, Average, Good, Excellent, and Outstanding. Notice that only some of the Volkswagen lease deals rate Excellent. The remaining deals are lower rated as Good.

In summary, the 2011 and 2012 Volkswagen CC leases are the highest scored and the best deals. In contrast, the Golf deals are only slightly above being rated only “Average.” However, all the deals (except possibly the Golf  and Jetta S) are better than you might expect to negotiate for yourself at a dealer. Therefore, if you are in the market for a VW lease, these deals are well worth considering.

These incentives are known variously as factory-to-dealer rebates, dealer cash, or marketing support. It’s money that the car company “secretly” gives to dealers to help them sell particular vehicle models that might be selling slowly or for which there is a temporary over-supply.  This kind of  rebate is very common on last year’s models (and this year’s models) when next year’s models come out. 

Although dealers can use the money almost any way they want, such as for advertising or tent sales, most of it is given to customers in the form of price discounts. With factory cash added to normal dealer discounts, it’s not difficult to get below-invoice deals. Therefore, it is important to know which car companies are providing such rebates and for which vehicles.

Here are some of the best dealer incentives for August 2011. Most expire at the end of August or beginning of September except those for Ford, Nissan, and Volvo which expire December 31. We’ve already discussed Mercury dealer incentives in this article but we list them again here.

General Motors  announced incentives in July that are good through August 2011. The company’s brands, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC,   have deals on most of their vehicles, many on new 2012 models. However, the best deals are on 2011 models. All GM incentives expire on September 6, 2011.

Honda (most models) and Acura (selected models) are offering low-interest loan rates (0.9%-1.9% APR) on both 2012 and 2011 models.  Volkswagen offers 0% APR loan rate on the 2012 CC and Eos, 0% APR on the 2011 Eos, Routan, CC, and Tiguan, and low interest rates (1.9%-4.9%) on other 2011 models. Audi offers low interest rates (0.9%-3.5% APR) on 2012 models and 0.9%-2.9% on 2011 models. Volvo offers low interest rates on the 2012 S60 (0.9%-1.9%) and 0.9%-2.49% on all 2011 models. 

Other incentives worth considering in August are as follows:

BMW is offering lower interest rates on most its 2011 models, including 0.9% APR on the Z4 and 1.9% APR on the 3-Series and M3.

Ford and Lincoln have 0% APR loan deals on nearly every 2011 and 2012 model. Other models have very low interest rates. The company also offers rebates on most models as well, ranging from $500-$3000. Of course you much select either the rebate or the low interest loan, not both.

Kia has good rebate offers and low interest loans on most models, including $3000 rebate on the 2011 Kia Sedona and $2500 on the 2012 model.

Jaguar offers 0% APR loans on the 2011 Jaguar XF, XJ, and XK.

Mitsubishi stands out with 0% APR loans or nice large rebates on all models, including a $4500 rebate on the 2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor and $3500 on the 2011 Galant.

Nissan comes on strong in August with 0% APR loan deals on nearly every model including 2012 versions of the Altima and Sentra. Alternatively you can select from some very attractive rebates on most models including up to $5250 on the 2011 Titan, up to $4000 for the 2011 Altima Hybrid, $3500 on the 2011 Armada, and up to $3000 on the 2011 Frontier and Maxima.

Suzuki  also has 0% ARP loans or rebates starting at $1000 up to $2000 on the 2011 Equator.

Toyota has 0% APR loan deals on the 2011 Tundra, Camry, Avalon, Highlander, Sienna, Venza, and Corolla.

Audi

Lease term is 36 months and annual mileage allowance is 10,000 miles for all the Audi leases. None require a security deposit for customers with good credit.  Be aware that details for these promotional leases can vary, depending on where you live.

Toyota

We’ll discuss the details of these new lease incentives in a moment but be aware that, depending on where you live in the U.S., the deals might vary in details.

This is because if you live in the Southeast U.S. (Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, or South Carolina) or in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, or Mississippi your Toyota incentives come from the two major Toyota distributors that control those states, not directly from Toyota USA. Typically, special lease incentives like the ones we discuss below are available for the same vehicles regardless of where you live, but payment amount and down payment requirement might vary. For example, a particualr Toyota vehicle might be offered in New York with a $299/month lease payment with $1999 down, while in Georgia the same vehicle might have a $269/month payment with $2999 down.  It’s essentially the same good deal with different details.

Following are the current Toyota special lease deals for August 2011. These are all for 36 months, 12,000 miles/year, and expire on 8/31/2011. All Toyota leases also include free 2-year/25,000 mile maintenance (oil changes, tire rotation, multipoint inspection) and 24-hour roadside assistance.

Honda

They are offering their famous incredibly attractive car lease deals that require no cash money at lease signing (except for the usual official tag and registration fees).

This means $0 for first month’s payment, $0 down payment (lease cap cost reduction), and $0 for security deposit. It’s what they call their $0-$0-$0 lease that other companies only rarely offer. Honda offers these special leases almost monthly.

The Honda leases are for 36 months and 12,000 miles/year. By not paying the first month’s payment, you only make 35 payments, not 36.

For August (until September 6, 2011) the current Honda $0-$0-$0 lease deals are as follows:

2011 Honda Accord LX Sedan (5-speed Auto) – $240/month lease

2011 Honda Accord LX-S Coupe (5-speed Auto) – $270/month lease

Dealers need to get rid of the older models to make room for new models. Money is tied up in the old models and that money needs to be retrieved to buy new models.

Car manufacturers help dealers sell leftover models by providing factory-to-customer rebates, low interest loans, special lease deals, and hidden factory-to-dealer cash that dealers can use to reduce prices.

We’ll see plenty of that kind of help in August and September of this year.

What this means is that August and September are two of the best months of the year to buy a new car. Some incredible deals can be had.

Let’s look at some examples of the kinds of deals we can expect:

BMW will be offering extremely low interest loans (although not quite 0%) on 2010 models such as the 6-Series, M6, X3, and some 5-Series. Factory-to-dealer cash as high as $10,000 (6-Series and $7000 (5-Series and M5) will also be available. Some excellent lease deals will be available on the 3-Series.

Chrysler will have rebates in the $2000-$1000 range on nearly all 2010 models — as well as 0% APR loan deals on nearly all 2010 models. Dealer cash of approximately $1000 will be offered on some models.

Ford will offer customer rebates in the $500-$2500, depending on model for 2010s — or 0% APR loan deals on nearly every 2010 vehicle. Dealer cash in the $3000-$6500 range will be available for many 2010 Ford models, especially Lincoln and Mercury.

General Motors, for 2010 models, will promote rebates as high as $4000 on some models (even higher for trucks) and low interest loans, including some 0% APR on selected models.

Honda will have low-interest loans on many 2010 vehicles.

Hyundai-Kia will offer rebates in the $1000-$2500 range, depending on specific 2010 model.

Land Rover will offer low interest loans.

Mercedes will offer low interest loans.

Mitsubishi will have rebates in the $1000-$4000 range for leftovere 2010 models.

Nissan will have rebates in the $1000-$4000 range (higher for Titan and Armada) and 0% APR loans for most 2010 models. Dealer cash in the range of $1000-$4500 will be available for all 2010 models.

Toyota will have modest rebates and 0% APR loans on most 2010 models (Toyota incentives are subject to change quickly). Factory-to-dealer cash of $1000-4500 will be available.

Volkswagen and Audi will offer low-interest loans, including some 0% APR. Factory-to-dealer cash of $2000-$6000 will be offered on 2010 Audi models.

Audi

The incentives come in the forms of “loyalty” rebates (for current Audi owners or lessees), low-APR loans, and large dealer cash rebates. Most of the low-APR loans are detailed as follows: 1.9%/1.9%/2.4%/2.9% for 12/36/48/60 months.

Dealer cash rebates are factory-to-dealer money that a dealer is free to use as he wishes, but it usually is applied as a price discount directly to customer purchases. It’s a great way for Audi to offer price discounts without being viewed as a “discount” car company. The August dealer cash amounts are very generous and can make for some good price discounts.

At this time, Audi is not offering any direct customer cash rebates except the “loyalty” rebates.

Here are some of the best current examples of Audi deals, all good through August 2009. All are for 2009 models.

Audi A3 – $1000 loyalty bonus rebate, $4000 dealer cash, and low APR loans.

Audi A4 – $2000 loyalty rebate, $3000 dealer cash, low interest loans.

Audi A5 – $1500 loyalty bonus, $1000 dealer cash, and low interest loans (3.9%/3.9%/4.4%/4.9% for 12/36/48/60 months).

Audi A6 – $3000 loyalty rebate, $4000 dealer cash, low interest loans.

Audi A8 – $5000 loyalty rebate, $5000 dealer cash, low interest loans.

Audi Q7 – $5000 loyalty rebate, $4000 dealer cash, low interest loans.

Audi S4 convertible – $2000 loyalty rebate, $6000 dealer cash, low-interest loans (0.9% for 12/36/48/60 months).

Audi TT – $2000 loyalty rebate, $3000 factory-to-dealer cash, low interest loans.

These are good incentives for the Audi company to be offering at this time. Obviously, they want to get some attention and sell some cars during these times of slow sales.

Acura

The Acura incentives for August 2009 come in the form of low interest loans, special lease deals, and factory-to-dealer cash. If you have read article on this site before, you know that hidden factory-to-dealer cash is a way for a car company to offer price discounts without being so obvious. Dealers give back the money to customers in the form of price discounts.

Here are some example of some of the best Acura deals. All the current deals and incentives are good through August and end on September 8, 2009.

2009 Acura MDX SUV – Low-interest loans (2.9%/2.9%/3.9% for 24/36/60 months), $2000 factory-to-dealer cash, and special $499 lease on the base model. The $2000 factory-to-dealer rebate can be combined with either the special lease or low interest loans.

2009 Acura RDX – $1500 factory-to-dealer rebate and a special $389 lease on the base model.

2010 Acura RL – $2000 factory-to-dealer rebate, and a $569 a month special lease deal for the base model.

2009 Acura TL – $2000 factory-to-dealer cash, and low APR loans (2.9%/2.9% for 24/60 months).

2010 Acura TSX – Special lease deals ($319 for base model, and $379 for base + Technology Package)

2009 Acura TSX – Low APR loans (2.9%/2.9%/3.9% for 24/36/60 months) and special lease deals ($399 for 60 month lease with a “cash for clunkers” rebate).

If you are in the market for an Acura, these deals are well worth considering.

So, at the time of this writing, we don’t know what deals will be offered for August 2009 for those deals that are ending on July 31 or August 3. New deals won’t be revealed until the day after, or sometimes a few days later. Will the new incentives be better than the last ones? Nobody knows.

However a few car manufacturers have already announced incentives for July that extend through August and September.

Here are some examples:

BMW is currently offering (through August 31) low interest rates on most of its models and styles, and special lease deals on the BMW 3-Series models, as well as on selected styles of the BMW 1-Series, 5-Series, X5, X6, and Z4. Also available are cash back rebates on the BMW 3-Series sedans and BMW X5. These are all good deals.

Volkswagen has current incentives that expire at the end of August. The Volkswagen deals come in a variety of forms, from “scrappage” rebates that supplement the new government “cash for clunkers” program (see Cash for Clunkers Rebate Program), to 0% APR loans on many models, to special “subvented” lease deals on selected styles within each model line. They also have some VERY healthy hidden factory-to-dealer rebates that show up as customer price discounts. For example, $6000 on the Volkswagen CC, $3000 on the Volkswagen Passat, and $1000 on the Volkswagen Tiquan.

Infiniti has some of the best deals for August and September we’ve ever seen on most its models and styles — some HUGE factory-to-dealer cash incentives that can’t be ignored. We’ve already written about these Infiniti deals in our article, Great Deals on Infiniti.

Honda’s current incentives are good for August 2009 and end on September 8. As usual, Honda has some incredible good deals on most models and styles. Low interest rates apply to nearly all models and styles. There is also factory-to-dealer cash — which translates to lower customer prices — on the Honda Accord, Civic, and CR-V. The cash is in the $500-$1500 range depending on model. And some very nice lease deals (see Honda Lease Deals for July and August) on one selected style within each of the Honda Accord, Civic, and CR-V model lines.

Land Rover has some very attractive incentives, including 0% APR loans, bonus cash rebates, and some very generous factory-to-dealer cash deals, all of which go through July, August, and September 2009. For example, for the Land Rover LR3 model, you get $1500 bonus cash, 0% APR loan interest for 36/48 months, and $3000 factory-to-dealer cash (dealer can give all or most of this cash to customers). For the Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE, there is $1500 bonus money, low interest loans, $799 a month lease deal, and $5000 factory-to-dealer cash (Wow!!).

Infiniti

All these deals are being offered for July, August, and September, until September 30, 2009.

Infiniti likes to be seen as a luxury, non-discount brand, so you won’t see any direct factory-to-customer rebates (except for a “loyalty” rebate for previous Infiniti owners). Therefore, it’s incentives are a little more subtle but nevertheless very significant. If you are in the market for an Infiniti vehicle, this is a great time to buy or lease.

Let’s look at some examples of these Infiniti deals:

2009 Infiniti EX35 Journey AWD – $500 loyalty bonus rebate for current Infiniti owners/lessees, 0% APR loans for 24/36 months (0.9%, 1.9%, 2.9% for 48/60/72 months), $399 a month lease deal, and a whopping $4000 factory-to-dealer cash rebate that dealers can give to customers as price discounts.

2009 Infiniti FX35 AWD SUV – $2000 loyalty rebate for current Infiniti owners/lessees (Wow!), 0% APR and low interest loans as for the EX35 above, $539 a month lease, and a big whopping $5000 factory cash to dealer (Wow!!!), which translates into heavy price discounts for customers.

2009 Infiniti FX50 AWD SUV – $2000 loyalty rebate, 0% APR and low-interest loans, $719 a month special lease deal, and $6000 factory cash to dealer (Wow!!!!!!!).

2009 Infiniti G37 Journey Coupe – 0% and low-interest loans like the EX35 above, $419 a month lease deal, and $2500 factory-to-dealer cash rebate which can be used by dealers to give to customers as a price discount.

2009 Infiniti M45 – $2000 loyalty cash, $1000 bonus cash rebate, 0% APR and low-interest loans, $759 a month lease deal, $6000 factory to dealer cash, and $2250 factory to dealer cash for leasing customers. Similar incentives are available for the Infiniti M35.

2010 Infiniti QX56 SUV – $1000 loyalty cash, 0% APR and low interest loans like the EX35 above, $799 a month lease deal, and $6000 dealer cash, which can be used by dealers to discount customer prices.
