Scion

Toyota created the brand specifically for a young and young-at-heart customer set, with fresh new styling and features, but retaining the value and reliability that the company has been famous for.

For December, Scion is offering a number of special special lease deals on selected styles of each of its models (except the brand new Scion IQ not yet available in all parts of the U.S.), including both 2011 and 2012 models.

All these deals are for 36 months, 36,000 miles allowance, and vehicles with automatic transmissions. All require a down payment of only $650 and first month’s payment, due at lease signing.

The deals end on January 3, 2012.

The ratings shown with the above listings were determined by LeaseGuide.com. As can be seen, all the lease deals are good deals but some are better than others. The 2011 Scion xB Release Series is the best, followed closely by the 2011 Scion xD Release Series. Since all these leases are subvented by the manufacturer, each is better than a customer could negotiate for themselves.

In order to get these special deals customers are required to be “qualified” as specified in the fine print of the offers. This means customers must have a good credit score to be accepted. These deals come from Toyota or from a Toyota distributor, depending on where you live. Because the lease deals have different origins, the details of each deal might differ from those we give you here. In some cases, the specific model and style might be slightly different, or it might be the monthly payment or amount due at signing.

Here are the most recent Toyota special leases, all of which expire on January 3, 2012. All are for 39 months, 39,000 miles. The cash due at signing includes a down payment and first month’s payment.

Chevrolet

The deals come in the form of special leases and 0% APR loans on selected 2012 models (and some 2011 models). All deals expire on January 3, 2012. All the leases being offered are $0 due-at-signing leases, meaning there no down payment, no security deposit, and no first month’s payment – sign and drive.

Following are the latest Chevrolet incentives:

Fortunately, a number of car makers announced deals at the beginning of November that are good through December 2011. At the time of this writing, we expect to know about deals from all the car companies during the first week of December.

General Motors (Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, GMC) in particular has a number of good $0-down lease deals on selected models good until 1/3/2012. Actually, it’s even better; it’s zero cash due at lease signing — sign and drive — which means no down payment, no security deposit, and no first month’s payment — on most but not all of the lease deals. We’ve explained it before, but Toyota has regional offices and distributors that often make up their own deals for the dealers in their region. In particular, Southeast Toyota controls Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina. And Gulf States Toyota controls Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Oklahoma. Other states’ distributorships are owned directly by Toyota. 

This causes incentive programs across the country to be similar but different in details.  Let’s explain with some examples.

Chevrolet

Although the rebates apply to selected models and styles of 2012 vehicles, the best deals are on leftover 2011 versions of the same models. Since very little changed between 2011 and 2012 models, the 2011 deals are especially good.

Some of the rebates are in the form of “secret” factory-to-dealer cash that is nearly always given to customers as a price discount. In either case, you should always ask your dealer to chip in an additional discount from his own pocket. Otherwise, he makes his full profit and lets the manufacturer take the entire financial hit.

Therefore, it is very useful to know which makes and models currently receive marketing support from the manufacturer. Prices on those vehicles will be lower than normal without having to do hard negotiating. If the dealer also adds his own discount, the deals can be even sweeter.

Actually, getting this kind of discount from a dealer is preferable to getting a direct-to-customer rebate. A rebate is not the same as a price discount. Sales tax on a new car is calculated on the selling price, after discounts are subtracted, but before rebates are deducted. A discount is a real price reduction, while a rebate is more like down payment money coming from the manufacturer’s pocket, not yours.

For example, if you buy a $12,000 car with a $2000 rebate, you pay sales tax on $12,000, although you only pay $10,000 of your own money for the car. On the other hand, if you buy a $12,000 car and you receive a $2000 discount, you only pay sales tax on $10,000.

Honda

The catch, as always, is that the deals don’t apply to all models and styles. The lease deals only apply to selected styles of certain models, usually the middle-of-the-line LX styles.

If you can be a little bit flexible and not be too particular about the style, you can take advantage of these great incentives from Honda. 

Here are some of the current Honda lease deals. All are for 36 months, 36,000 miles and are good through November and December, ending on January 4, 2011.

Chrysler

The new Chrysler incentives are in the form of direct factory-to-customer rebates, zero-percent loans, low-interest loans, and “hidden” factory-to-dealer rebates that are usually applied as price discounts.

The Chrysler company has announced no special lease deals because it is no longer directly offering car leases. However, Chrysler dealers now use GMAC for lease financing and GMAC is offering lease deals. Furthermore, Chrysler is offering several cash bonuses on some models to customers who choose to lease. Overall the BMW deals are very good, especially on the 2009 models. However, in most cases, the new 2010 models also get good incentives, just not quite as good as the 2009s.

As usual, BMW’s incentives are a bit unusual with some odd variations. Although the company doesn’t often (hardly ever) offer direct factory-to-customer rebates, they are doing it in this round of incentives. The rebates are called “Holiday Credit Cash” and are either $1500 or $2500, depending on the model. Furthermore, most but not all models get the special rebate. In order to qualify for the rebate, the vehicle must be financed or leased through BMW Financial Services.

Most models, including 2010 models, also get low-interest loan deals, which can be combined with the “Holiday Credit Cash.” Although there are some very low interest rates being offered, all for 24/60 months, there are no 0% loan deals in this incentive program from BMW. The best rates are, of course, on 2009 models. Rates range from 0.9% APR (2009 6-Series and M6), 1.9% ( 2009 Z4 and some 7-Series), 2.9% (2009 M3 and X3), 3.9% (2009 3-Series, 2009 and 2010 5-Series, 2010 X3, 2010 Z4), to 4.9% (2010 3-Series, 2010 6-Series, 2010 7-Series, 2009 and 2010 X5, 2009 and 2010 X6).

For a few select models, BMW is providing dealers with factory-to-dealer cash with which the dealer can discount prices on those models, although in some cases the discounts can be restricted, for example, by not being allowed if the customer also wants the special loan interest rate also being offered. This is true for the $2500 dealer cash on the 2009 3-Series and M3. However, the 6-Series and M6 get a whopping $6000 dealer cash deal that can be combined with a very nice 0.9% APR loan rate for either 24 or 60 months.

Overall, these deals are well worth considering if you are in the market for a BMW. In fact, these are some of the best deals we’ve seen from the company this year.
